Lets start with 3 things about you

Hi! My name is Chhavi Bansal. I am from Delhi and I just turned 21! I have been reading books since I was 11 years old.

How did you find bookstagram?

I was actually going through a reading slump since a few months and I decided that maybe if I have someone to discuss books with, then I would feel motivated to read. So I joined bookstagram and discovered this amazing community of bibliophiles!

When did you start bookstagramming?

I just started bookstagramming about 3 months back.

What are you passionate about other than books?

Well, I really like studying too. I have done my graduation in business administration and I really like studying management!

Favorite thing about bookstagram.

I love the fact that the bookstagram community is so friendly, encouraging and sweet! Also, before reading bookstagram, I used to read the romance genre only, but this platform has motivated me to try out other genres and I am so thankful for that! I get to read amazing book reviews which help me make better buying decisions. One more thing that I really love about bookstagram is that it has introduced me to various sites and people who sell bookish stuff. I was introduced to this website which goes by the name of bookishsanta and it sells secondhand and new books for such amazing prices! I also came to know about various accounts selling really beautiful bookmarks, my favourite one being @mystic_marks_.

Any negative/bad experiences about bookstagram

I haven’t really had any bad experience but I do find somethings really annoying. Like when people message me asking me to follow them for no reason at all! Also, I believe that this platform does put a bit of pressure on your mind for coming up new photography ideas and good captions. Not to mention, the twinge of sadness you feel if a particular pic doesn’t get too many likes despite of taking too many efforts for clicking it!

What’s your goal from Bookstgram?

I don’t have have any monetary goals from this platform. I just want to discuss books with people because I don’t get to do that with any of my friends!

What’s a photo you posted that is your favorite? Why?

A photo that I really like is the one from ‘blue stack challenge’. I really love the colors and that took such minimal efforts!

Where do you find all the candles, bookmarks, fake flowers, and other Instagram staples of props?

I am a bit proud to say that I haven’t spent one buck on props! It was all available at my home. Though I have bought certain things since I have joined bookstagram, I did not buy them for the purpose of clicking pictures. I bought a bookbox from @shelfebook and I got a beautiful candle with that. Also, I got some click-worthy bookmarks from bookishsanta!

Is there a particular theme you follow on your account?

I started out by clicking random pictures but I decided to try out a theme about 3 weeks back. So currently I am following a theme where I use all the red and pink props. I use fake flowers, potpourri, bookmarks, aesthetic stationery and a few more things.

What camera or editing software do you use?

I use Lightroom and Photoshop Express, both by Adobe. I click pictures with my phone itself.

How often do you post? Do you plan posts or are they spontaneous?

I usually click pictures 2 times in a week, 3-4 pics each time and then I post them almost everyday throughout the week.

Any other social media your active on talking about books? Blog? FB? Twitter? Tumblr? Pinterest?

I did join twitter but it was becoming hectic so I deleted my account, After all, I need to focus on my studies too!

Your favorite Book and Author please? Tell us more about them. Why you love them etc.

This is a really tough question for any bibliophile! Well, my favourite book is ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’. The Harry Potter series helped me discover the pleasures of reading and this particular book introduced me to Sirius and so I like it the best! My favorite author is Amish because I just love the way he presents Indian mythology with such details! It becomes so interesting to read!

Favorite movie adaptation of a book?

Me before you. Definitely. The actors chosen to play the characters were perfect. The scenes were perfectly written and everything was up to the mark!

Do you like to read? Why do you think reading is important?

I love reading! Its important because every book teaches you something, Fiction too! Also, it strengthens your imagination and helps you learn in looking at one thing from a different perspective. It gives you the power to think.

The place you buy all your books from?

There is no particular place. I have bought books from Daryaganj book market, Janpath, World Book Fair, Delhi Book Fair, Amazon, bookishsanta.com, shelfebook.com, Oxford bookstore, Crossword bookstore, etc.

Do you have any tips or tricks for our readers who would like to start on Bookstgramm?

Engagement is the key. Having good content is important but you need to interact with fellow bookstagrammers. Also, building an account takes time. Be patient. Don’t lose hope if your statistics aren’t good in the beginning.

Your one inspirational bookstagrammer?

There are a lot of them, but I like @pretty_little_bibliophile the best. She also has a YouTube account and she is always reading such diverse books! And she is such a humble person too!

And finally Currently Reading?

I am currently reading ‘Into the water’ by Paula Hawkins. It’s my second book of the author, the first one being ‘The girl on the train’. Both of these are thrillers and I am finding my current read really interesting.

I had great fun talking to Chhavi and now I've also become a fan. Do chip in with any questions you have for Chhavi or me in the comments and do visit her profile on Instagram.
