Summary

Sadie hasn't had a normal teenager’s life. Growing up on her own, because of a junkie mother, she's been nurturing her sister Mattie in a forgotten small town- Cold Creeks. She is trying her best to provide both of them with a normal life and keep surviving.

But when Mattie is found dead, Sadie's entire world is crushed. After an unsuccessful police investigation, Sadie is resolute on bringing her sister's killer to justice and hits the road following a few leads to get to him.

When West McCray, a podcaster, learns Sadie's story at a local gas station, he becomes possessed with finding Sadie. He starts a podcast, The Girls, as he tracks her trail encouraged by Maybeth, a grandmotherly neighbor to the girls, trying to figure out what happened, hoping to find her before it's too late.

My Review

A unique audiobook featuring more than thirty voices, Sadie details the depth of a sister's love. It is an audiobook listeners won't be able to pause.

The narrative switches between Sadie and the Podcaster West McCray and I loved the small jingle McMillan Publishers has added in the audiobook before the podcast begins. These little things make it so real and the experience of listening to a book very appealing.

Sadie’s character will touch you in a way that you won’t be able to get her out of your mind. This is easily one of the most gripping, and thought-provokingly, told thrillers I’ve listened to in a while.

Final Verdict

A tragic, disturbing thriller perfect for anyone addicted to twisted mysteries. You won’t be able to stop until the last chapter.

Warning – Themes of pedophilia and violence.

“It was a terrible thing, sure, but we live in a world that has no shortage of terrible things. You can't stop for all of them.”
