Reading, Book Blogging Goals for 2024

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases

As of December 2023, my book blog has been around for three and a half years.

I managed to read 65 books in 2023 as opposed to 60 novels the previous year. Nonetheless, I have a lot of 4-star novels and 13 books with five stars. All in all, I believe I had a successful reading year. In the upcoming year, I intend to read around the same number of books.

More importantly, though, is what I'd like to know about the novels you enjoyed reading in 2023. Please share your recommendations with me; I'm always looking for some very good books to read.

I post all of my reading, blogging, and metrics here, as I did last year, because a lot of you readers were curious about them. This also becomes a place where I document my advancements or regressions. I become responsible for keeping my word and am able to recognize where I need to improve.

It gives me confidence to compare the following years and observe a peaking chart with increasing numbers. Now let's get started.

Reading Statistics 2023

Goodreads Goal

My initial goal every year is to read at least 50-52 books which roughly translates to a book a week. Last  year I completed that goal around September and by the end of December 2023, I have read 65 books in all.

As is clear from the graphic below I had quite a good reading year with plenty of 4 stars and so many 5-star books.

Books Read

Pages Read

The smallest book I read was 20 pages long – Galatea by Madeline Miller.

While the longest one was 561 pages long – The Outsider by Stephen King.

In total I read 16203 pages, that’s rounds up to an average of 44 pages per day. I can do better 🙁

Reading Goals I had made for 2023

Read 100 Books again in 2023

I read 65 books.

Read more books outside of my comfort zone

I did read a good chunk of books outside my comfort zone, and I have a new favorite genre - political fantasy.

Read Books I Own/ Read from my Shelves

Buy Less

Successfully checked. Reading books that I own, especially the ones on my shelves, is a great way for me to explore the stories and knowledge that I already have access to. It allows me to delve into different genres and authors that I may have overlooked in the past, expanding my reading horizons and discovering hidden gems within my own collection. Additionally, it gives me a sense of accomplishment as I make progress in reducing the number of unread books on my shelves while immersing myself in captivating narratives that are easy on my pocket.

Read from E-Books bought or downloaded

One of my goals for 2024 is to read as many books as possible from the amazing selection of free books offered by Kindle Unlimited. On it, I already have a list of 100 fantastic books that I would like to read for free.

Listen to audiobooks

I'm going to restrict my use of audiobooks to particular categories, like romance. Because we can read romance novels more quickly than any other type of book. For me, the written word is significant in genres like mystery and literary fiction as well.

Memoirs are another category I enjoy listening to on audio, particularly when the author narrates them. It's a fantastic experience.

Use the Library

2023 I used the library extensively. Most 2023 releases I read on my membership and a few backlisted books as well. I plan to continue my membership but it’s absolutely worth every penny and more.

Continue reading diversely to broaden your perspective and gain a deeper understanding of different cultures, ideas, and perspectives. Exploring various genres such as fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and even graphic novels can expose you to a wide range of experiences and viewpoints. Additionally, seeking out books written by authors from diverse backgrounds can provide unique insights into the human experience and challenge your preconceived notions.

Continue taking part in reading challenges but not in readathons or buddy reads

Engaging in reading challenges not only allows you to discover new genres and authors, but also helps you develop a consistent reading habit and improve your comprehension abilities. Additionally, participating in these challenges often provides opportunities to connect with fellow book lovers, exchange recommendations, and gain insights from different perspectives.

Read One Nonfiction Book Every Month

I did read 13 books in 12 months in 2023.

Read NetGalley ARCs every month and get the next badge

I read lesser book from NetGalley. May be more next time.

Read at least 5 Days/Week

Essentially trying to get reading in everyday for 365 days for at least 15 minutes - checked.

Read 100 Books Based in India or Written by Indian Authors

I failed miserably on this front. I don’t think I read more than 2 books from this challenge. But I definitely want to do better here in 2024.

New Book Blogging and Reading Goals for 2024

Reading Goals for 2024

Read 100 Books again in 2024

I plan on reading 100 books once again in 2024 although for now, I’ve set my Goodreads reading goal to 52 – a book a week. I plan on reading some awesome short books and some graphic novels to help complete my goal.

Read more books outside of my comfort zone

I want to read more translated and more books from other countries. Hope I can do that this year. Last year I read a book from Slovakia and it was phenomenal. I plan to read some Korean and Vietnamese books this year.

Read Books I Own/ Read from my Shelves

Buy Less

Yes, to continue the earlier point I will read from my shelves. Buy less. That’s my mantra for 2023 as well.

Read from E-Books bought or downloaded

Kindle Unlimited has an awesome collection of books that are available to read for free, I hope to read many, many titles from this collection in 2024. I’ve already got a list of 100 great titles I want to read on it for free.

Listen to audiobooks

Audiobooks are expensive at least for now as I have learnt. But I plan to explore a few in 2024.

Use the Library

New releases and popular books are something I can borrow from my library as I've learned. So for these kinds of books specifically I will be using my library membership optimally.

Yes, Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, those are on my list.

Continue taking part in reading challenges and readathons and buddy reads

I plan on participating in

  • Booklist queen;s reading challenge
  • Uncorked reading challenge
  • Champaca book challenge
  • Kayla’s Buzzword challenge.

Read One Nonfiction Book Every Month

I will continue this challenge in 2024.

Read NetGalley ARCs every month and get the next badge

I plan to read at least 12 new books from NetGalley, hopefully, one every month, in addition to working through the already growing TBR shelf.

Read at least 5 Days/Week

Every day 365 days, 15 minutes at the least.

Read 100 Books Based in India or Written by Indian Authors

Reading 100 Books Based in India or Written by Indian Authors is my major project for the coming years that I have undertaken.

Book Blogging Goals for 2024

Plan blog posts/write in advance

I can say with pride that I have 36 posts scheduled for 2024 already. I have an annual planner with me. I've planned out what I'll post when, and I'm currently working on the specifics of each post. I want to have at least 18 comprehensive entries ready for publication by the end of February.

I can't wait to share these fantastic books and material with you.

I purchased a planner for the first time this year in October of the previous year. It was impossible to always have a laptop with me, and occasionally I still believe that writing things down by hand is preferable to using a laptop. When I had all of my content for the upcoming year planned out and written down in the planner at the conclusion of the previous year, I was ecstatic. Can't wait to tell you about it.

Blog Traffic

I did hit 50k page views last year. With the kind of content, I have planned and the consistency, I hope to reach the 100k mark in 2023. Seeing these numbers gives me a boost for reading more books and creating more powerful content for your readers. No matter if I don't reach any of these numbers. In the end, if I can even motivate one of you to pick a book I recommend, my task here is done.

Increase blog followers

Hit 300 email subscribers, hopefully.

Interact with more publishing houses and authors

Get in touch with more publishers so I can share reviews of new releases with you immediately without burning a hole in my pocket J

Post at least twice a month

Like last year, I plan to publish three times a month, so that makes 36 posts in a year. Somehow, this has set a good rhythm for me since last year. However, if I am unable to produce certain posts, I will most definitely submit a post every two weeks.

To be honest, though, I try to update once a week and offer you at least fifty quality posts—I know you would appreciate that. Cross your fingers.

Social Media Goals for 2024

I have abandoned other social media like Facebook and Instagram, because managing everything on my own becomes a hassle. I prioritized and realized that Pinterest is most important for my audiences and that’s where I will be.

Get more active on Pinterest and get 700 followers maybe and continue getting 100k page views every month.

Currently have 500 followers and 70k page views.

Conclusion

I emphasize what I said last year, I realize that, as a reader, none of this (the goals) should concern you. However, I think that this post is more for me than it is for you. I take responsibility for my work and reading by putting it in writing here and making it public on the blogosphere.

Because of the various ups and downs that occur throughout the year, I know that none of you will hold it against me if I read fewer books or produce less content. However, this post will serve as a guide for me at the end of the year, when I'm feeling overwhelmed.

The only recommendations for a conclusion are to read more and better literature and to encourage others to read.

Cheers to your reading!
