Summary

What would happen if you fall in love with the one person you’re not supposed to fall in love with?

That is Claire’s story in Finding Me. A drunk driver crashes into Claire’s car while her mom was driving. Claire’s mom is killed instantly while an injury to the spinal cord confines Claire to a wheelchair. Paralyzed from the waist down, Claire’s life runs into further distress when her father’s decides to move her to her Grandmother’s place and get married to Sarah, a woman almost her age, who is pregnant with their baby.

New house, new school and no friends Claire is in despair. Adding to her woos the first person she encounters in school is Todd, the son of the driver who crashed into their car. Will Claire’s life ever be normal again? Will she find true love and a family that understands her?

My Review

Kelly Gunderman has a lovely haters-to-lovers story going here. It’s light, simple and quick. At 188 pages you could finish it in a weekend. The characters are all very sweet. None of them had mean shades or twisted histories. Just regular people living a real life, with real problems. The writing is simple to follow. I loved the bit where Todd and Claire bunk school and go to a lake. The scene was endearing. I also liked the author’s emphasis on small things in life like when Claire is making an observation about her Grandma – “I love watching her make it, the way she boils the water in the kettle and then pours it carefully. It’s such a simple task, but she has perfected making a cup of tea like artists perfect their craft.”

But with the lack of major twists or even some passionate scenes between the main characters, Finding Me becomes a forgettable story. There is no real anchor to it. The dialogue between Claire and Todd is fun but again nothing deep or quote worthy.

Final Verdict

I rate the book 3.5 stars out of 5. I found a couple editing mistakes.

Kelly Gunderman

Kelly Gunderman was born a child of the late eighties in small-town Pennsylvania. A bibliophile in her own right, she is hoping to one day surpass the number of pages she has turned with those she has written of her own accord.

Having recently completed her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Development, Kelly suddenly found herself with a bit more free time than usual, and began her immediately successful foray into blogging and Freelance Writing, which subsequently led to her renewed desire to finally put her ideas and imaginings “on paper.”

Focusing primarily on the Young Adult genre, Kelly is the author of Finding Me and Living Dead Girl.

She currently resides in her original home town with her husband, their two daughters, and a few cats that constantly challenge the sanity of all with their ill-advised attempts at what can only be assumed to be world domination.
