What is this crazy love for books called? – Bibliophilia and so I as a book lover would be called a bibliophile.
Did You Know?
50% of Hollywood movies have been adapted from books and adaptations have been the most successful at the box office. Yay! I knew it. Books are the best.
The most expensive book was sold for $30.8 million (by Leonardo Da Vinci), but no worries, my recommendations are mostly under $10. Who purchased this book, you ask, Bill Gates, of course. Only the richest man in the world could buy the most precious treasure in the world.
Did you know you have about 129 million choices in books, RIGHT NOW? You would wonder at the number of authors writing these books. But know this that most publishers only publish 1-2% of total manuscripts they receive.
Theodore Roosevelt, former President of America, read one book a day. Ambitious, for our part, let's at least do one every month. Reasonable? But interestingly, even if I read one book per day and lived for 80(trying to be optimistic) years, minus the infant years, I could only read about 28,000 books. That's such a teeny-tiny number compared to 129 million.
Although there are two broad genres for books- Fiction and Non-fiction, there are more than 50 genres under them in existence today. I sure don't love all of them (Never liked the Textbook kind in school, although I have read a couple). The Dystopian genre in Young Adults is one of the newest additions to book genres and currently the most popular. Any Harry Potter fans? Sorry, stupid question.
While we are on Harry Potter, did you know Harry Potter books were banned in catholic schools for promoting witchcraft, wizardry, and spells. Really? I am yet to succeed the first-grader spell Wingardium Leviosa! And I can't help but notice that it only means that all the Catholic school-teachers read the books and then agreed on banning them, right? Do I sense an irony here?
I love certain books for their covers. But I bet you didn't know, on ancient book covers, you may not find the name of the Author printed because back then, the covers were considered works of art so that the name would mess it up!
You could call yourself a bookworm, but the term was coined from tiny worm-like insects that feed on book bindings. Ew!
To write a book, it takes approximately 475 hours. How many do you take to read it?
August 9 is National Book Lovers Day, and the day my blog was launched!
That's all the fun we could have here. But do share your reasons to love books. I'd love to make some whacky additions. Leave a comment!
