A compelling read all the way with charming and scandalous characters taking all the glory!

Summary

Naked Truth is the life’s story of the sisters’ Victoria and Tennessee, part fiction and part real. Set in New York and Washington DC in the 1860s and the 1870s, this is a true American Herstory. A carefully lived life by the ambitious, smart, and sexy sisters came into jeopardy at the hands of their own backstabbing family members and trusted friends. Hurt by many, their story of strength in a world dominated entirely by men is nothing short of inspirational.

My review

The story has several themes meant to be read-only by an adult audience like Love, lust, sex, scandal, corruption, and betrayal – everything that intrigues the human soul. The story has no shortage of drama. But the characters are the real punch in the whole package, and they were my favorite part. I so loved Tennessee Claflin. She is everything that a woman aspires to be – bold, beautiful, smart, intelligent, humorous, kind, loving and caring, and sometimes a clairvoyant.

I also found unique and loved about this book, the author’s inclusion of several newspaper clippings from that era and journal entries from several pivotal characters dairies. The writing is brilliant, and the chapters are short, making the reading relatively easy and exciting as well as gripping. The tone of the writing is also suitable for a story set in the earlier century.

The book highlights several issues women in the era faced. Some of them are relevant even today. Although some readers might think that the women were morally loose characters and deserved what they got in the end, it is imperative to not ignore the era this happened in. An intelligent and beautiful woman in a man’s world was bound to be a target by scorned men and jealous women.

Final Verdict

The sister’s struggle felt real, their emotions felt real, their hopelessness and despair felt real so was their joy and love. I couldn’t have asked for anything more through this historical fiction. I rarely did find any editing mistakes. And so I rate this book a perfect score of 5 stars.

I loved it and felt deeply for the sisters and hope to read more history about women that is so touching.

Who Should Read This

I recommend this book for readers of historical fiction and it’s also a perfect book for woman’s fiction fans.

Carrie Hayes

Over the years, Carrie has tried a lot of things. She’s sold vacuum cleaners, annuities and sofas. She’s lived at the beach and lived in Europe. She’s taught school and worked in film. For a while, she was an aspiring librarian, but she fell in love and threw her life away instead. Back in the States, she started over, then met an architect who said, “Why don’t you become a kitchen designer?” So, she did. Eventually, she designed interiors, too. And all that time, she was reading. What mattered was having something to read. Slowly, she realized her craving for books sprang from her need to know how things would turn out. Because in real life, you don’t know how things will turn out. But if you write it, you do. Naked Truth or Equality the Forbidden Fruit is her first book.
