I had an amazing reading month this February in terms of the books I read. None of them have been less than 4 stars for me, and that I think is exceptional. But I managed to read only 4 books this month which might be my lowest average in all of my reading months.
In my defense, work has to be the culprit here and of course February has only 28 days! But going forward I will definitely try to read more books every month, because hey, there are so many, many books yet to read and we are given only one life to read them.
My favorite of the month has to be The Picture of Dorian Gray as it was an unexpectedly good book. I did not expect the storyline to be so compelling there. And although it is British literature from the 1800’s it was surprisingly easy to follow.
Also I wrote 2 very interesting Books List posts this month, linking them down below, do check them out.

Pyre by Perumal Murugan
“Can't I marry the woman I love? In what way have I wronged anyone by doing that? She loves me with all her life. I love her the same way. I have not gone to anyone asking for money. Why is everyone driving us away?”
Pyre is the story of a love-struck couple in the villages of India – Saroja and Kumarasen. They come to the groom’s village to settle after secretly getting married. But they are hiding a dangerous truth – that their marriage is an inter-caste marriage.
The writing of the story is so powerful that I was terrified for the innocent and helpless newlyweds. Perumal Murugan paints a very grim, and disturbing picture through this revenge story of the villagers. What was surprising was the indifference and lack of understanding shown by the groom’s mother and closest family. Even the bride’s parents did not seem too bothered about their daughter.

The Rebound by Catherine Walsh
A newly single girl. A tall dark handsome stranger. What could go wrong?
It’s 7am on a Monday morning and Abby Reynolds isn’t where she wants to be. She wants to be in her beautiful loft apartment in Manhattan, drinking a coffee with her fiancé.
Instead, she’s heading back to the childhood home in rural Ireland she swore she’d never return to, with some big old secrets. Namely that she’s suddenly found herself unemployed, homeless and absolutely 100% single.
It’s a very cute story. And the Irish background with sea and mountains just add to the overall charm of the story.
The story was fast-paced with interesting events happening all the time.
Romance story lovers are in for a treat, especially those looking for a happily ever after ending.

The volume and complexity of what we know has exceeded our individual ability to deliver its benefits correctly, safely, or reliably.
Atul Gawande is a celebrated surgeon and writer who finds the simplest solution for the most complex problems: the checklist.
Written through awe-inspiring stories and life-threatening episodes in people’s lives, The Checklist, takes us through Gawande’s technique in fiction style. He believes that the application of the checklist is not only limited to medicine or surgery but is equally efficient for disaster response, skyscraper construction, banking, aviation, hotel management, and every imaginable business.
It’s truly an amazing book that is in no way preachy but fun to read and will most definitely inspire to start using the simple technique from today.
Here’s my summary of the wonderful book.
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
“You will always be fond of me. I represent to you all the sins you never had the courage to commit.”
Basil Howard is a painter and he has made his finest art until today. He has painted a portrait of Dorian Gray.
Dorian Gray realizes something shocking after he sees the beautiful portrait – the painting will remain forever young and beautiful but he will grow old and due to this idea he does not like the painting much and wishes he could switch places with it.
Little does he realize that sometimes what we wish for comes true but the consequences are beyond horrifying?
The novel did manage to evoke some strong emotions in me towards the characters. And I must say in the times this novel was written it had to be very brave for showing the homosexual angle so openly.
But all my stars in the rating go to the gripping storyline that had me anxious and worrying and shocked and finally feeling sad in the end.
