Best Quotes & Poems from Soft Glimmers & Shining Stars by Niki A.

Soft Glimmers and Shining Stars is a soulful collection of poetry that touches themes of love, life, hope, success, or even heavy topics like race, independence, and more. I began by reading the first few poems and was so enraptured that I felt like reading the whole book. But I reminded myself to take them slowly, a few poems every day, so I could do them justice and embrace the meaning hidden in the simply rhymed verses.

The poetess in her topics has covered a wide ground. I was surprised at the little details she observed and made beautiful verses out of. Like the one about Compliments, where she observes that you’re gloomiest days can become the best with even a small – “You look lovely today”.

She offers advice through poems like – Isolation. Some poems cover only a handful of lines, but some cover two pages, the longest one I think the one titled Genius. I loved the little sketch-like illustrations below most of the poems. They fit perfectly to the mood of the verses. My favorite illustration was the one in the poem titled – Cozy & Curled. It shows a dainty reading nook by the window flanked by bookshelves on both walls.

Some of the poems I felt were profound like the ones titled – Getting Things Right, Light, Change, and Stole. I was surprised because Niki is only 29 years old and the insights she shares through her poetry transcend her age. While some of the poems were just sweet things detailing some minute observations like – The Lady in Red, Vibe, Dream World, and Your Way.

My favorite has to be Light, let me share it with you.

Courage

Sometimes I wonder if a life of courage is truly a great one

Wouldn't we be more comfortable and relaxed in a laidback one?

But, then again, I think to myself

It's not a life of power, it's not a life of pelf

That brings out one's best self

It is in fact, a life that you can look back upon with awe

For if everything you did, and everything you saw

Was smoked with oodles of courage and served raw,

Then it's a life of which you'd definitely want more.

Isolation

Yes, you are confined

Use it to reflect, relax and rewind.

What you’re looking for,

You now have the time to find.

What you want to get away from,

You can choose to leave behind

And walk back into your life,

With your goals and values aligned.

Change

Take me the way I am,

Don’t ask me to change,

For if you do,

Then you’re taking the “me”,

Away from me,

Without really even taking me.

Cozy & Curled

Maybe bad things happen,

Only to lead us to better things

Than we ever imagined

And to show us the world,

Right where it’s supposed to be

Resting – cozy and curled.

Light

We all have an inner light

A guide,

Almost like a lighthouse

Built in a deep sea,

That grounds us

Steers us

Leads us

And helps us choose

The right from the wrong.

It chides us when we err

And makes us feel guilt,

Trust it, more often than you do

There’s a reason it was built.

Getting Things Right

Often we learn the value of time and people

Far too late

And then decide to blame things on fate.

Though it was us who chose to do nothing but wait

Avoiding the obvious even in out gait

All the deep piling feelings, some even of hate.

Not taking what the universe tried to offer us in bait

Of what’s left you can still acknowledge and appreciate

After all, for getting things right, there’s no fixed date.

Stole

We’re enough to take on the world.

We’re enough to make the drums roll

If we were fish, we wouldn’t need a shoal

Each other’s hearts we stole,

And that makes us whole.

Conclusion

Every reader will find something either soft or shining in this collection that resonates with you and will inspire you to do better, move forward in life, or just enjoy the beauty of where you are.
